Why we hold try-outs

An LSC United team isn’t an area team. It’s county-wide, made up of the players who most want the extra challenge. Fair, open try-outs are the only way to pick those teams.

What to expect

We know a try-out can feel scary for a young player. Ours are run like a big, fun practice:

  1. Warm-ups and individual skill drills.
  2. Drills that add other players, such as passing and defending.
  3. Small-sided scrimmages, to see how players do in a game.

Coaches look at ball handling, trapping, passing, defending, goalkeeping (if your child wants to play in goal), awareness of space, and work ethic and team attitude.

What to bring

  • Shin guards and cleats
  • A full water bottle

Please leave jewelry at home.

How players are picked

  • Coaches and LSC United representatives at the try-out agree on each team together, and you hear within a week of the tryout if your child has been offered a roster spot on the team..
  • Where a player lives is not part of the decision.
  • Once you’re offered a place, LSC United offers payment plans over six months. See Fees & travel.
  • We work hard to find a place for every player who wants to play. Teams have roster limits set by MSYSA (Michigan’s youth soccer association); when a team is full, we try to offer the remaining players a place as practice players.

Rosters are big on purpose; see Teams for why.

Joining in the spring

June try-outs pick players for the whole next season, fall and spring. The January try-out fills spring-only teams and any open places. Ask us through the club’s Facebook page.
