Leelanau Soccer Club has been bringing kids across the county together to play for well over a decade. You may still see other names for it:

  • LCSC (Leelanau County Soccer Club). Still the club’s legal name, the one on its nonprofit papers. The club’s news used it until 2018to be confirmed.
  • The M22s. The old name of the club’s competitive (“select”) teams.
  • LSC United. In 2018 the M22s were renamed LSC United, with a new badge and uniforms. Partly this set the club apart from the M-22 apparel brand, and partly the club had grown up along with its players. LSC United today

Fall 2015: the 5th Romp ’n Stomp

The club’s county-wide rec tournament was held at the Myles Kimmerly fields in Maple City. Over 290 players aged 4 to 12 took part that fall, on rec teams from the four areas with fields at the time: Glen Lake, Leland, Northport and Suttons Bay. Six U12 teams, nine U10 teams and twelve U8 teams played for trophies, which then went on display in area schools. It was the first season U8 was split into boys’ and girls’ teams; until then it had always been co-ed. Nine U6 teams played two games each, just for fun.

Fall 2017: the 7th Romp ’n Stomp

A drizzly day in Maple City, with over 300 players aged 4 to 13. A county U13 team played up against U13/U14 teams from Traverse City and took silver. One U9 final ended in a 1–1 draw, a first for the Romp ’n Stomp. Seven U7 teams played friendlies, and the U5 All-Stars played their first full team games. Leelanau Coffee and parents helped raise over $650 for equipment, and the club thanked the Feather Foundation for supporting its scholarship fund.

Spring 2018: the biggest Romp ’n Stomp yet

Over 500 players aged 4 to 13 took part in June 2018, including visiting teams from Traverse City (TBAYS), Bellaire and North Star. The U5 All-Star Stampede opened the day. U7 had separate boys’ and girls’ divisions for the first time, and U9, U10 and U12 teams played through to finals. Some games were at the Glen Lake School fields. Two of the coaches that day were former LSC players.

Spring 2018: LSC United’s first season

Under their new name, LSC United teams played the Cherry Capital Cup in Traverse City and the Petoskey Summer Invitational, against teams from across Michigan and Canada. The U9 boys won their division at both, the Petoskey final in overtime. United teams also took part at U9, U10, U11, U12 and U13–U14, for both boys and girls.

Recent years

  • The Romp ’n Stomp keeps growing. Over 500 kids played in spring 2022, and more than 530 in fall 2024, helped by 73 volunteer coaches, referees and parents. Recent spring events have included a cleat and shoe swap, with used gear collected for the charity Kids First Uganda.
  • LSC United grew to 12 teams by spring 2024, playing tournaments such as the Midland Invitational Tournament, the Cherry Capital Cup and the Petoskey Fresh Coast Classic.
  • Since about 2025, United teams are named by birth year, such as “LSC United 2016 Black”.
  • LSC players have been picked for Michigan’s Olympic Development Program (ODP), the state’s program for its strongest young players.
  • “United We Stand” scarves. In the winter of 2020–21 the club sold LSC scarves in volt green to raise money.
  • Alumni. Former LSC players have gone on to play in college, and 19 LSC alumni were on Leland Public School’s Division 4 state championship team in the fall of 2025.
