Fall 2017 Romp ‘n Stomp

The Leelanau County Soccer Club (LCSC) hosted its 7th annual Fall Romp N Stomp at the Myles Kimmerly soccer fields in Maple City on a drizzly Saturday, October 28, 2017. LCSC facilitates both recreational and select (M22s) soccer opportunities for area youth in the spring and fall. The Romp N Stomp is a countywide recreational tournament which is held at the end of the fall and spring soccer seasons. Trophies are awarded to the winning age groups and circulated through area schools. Over 300 kids ranging from 4 to 13 years in age participated.

LCSC recreational teams are built around the four ‘areas’ where there are soccer fields available: Glen Lake, Leland, Northport and Suttons Bay. In some of the older age groups and all of LCSC’s M22 select teams, the teams are made up of kids from across the county as well as kids from Traverse City and Benzie County.

Coach Alpi’s co-ed U13 team from across Leelanau County “played up” against co-ed U13/U14 Teams USA and Brazil from TBAYS in Traverse City. Coach Thuente’s “Brazil” team made the most of the trip up to Maple City going undefeated to take home the gold, while our LCSC team won the silver!

Coach Noorman’s under 11 (U11) girls team from Leland defeated Coach U’Ren’s Suttons Bay squad in the championship game. On the boy’s side, both Leland teams went undefeated in their two preliminary games to square off in the finals. Coach Sawyer’s squad prevailed over Coach Burda’s team in the championship game.

In the girls under 9 (U9) age division Coach Thompson’s Leland girls beat out Coach Rix’s North Star Academy team from Greilickville. Coach Chacon/Thompsons’ team from Suttons Bay squared off against Coach Knudsen’s Leland team after each went undefeated in qualifying and semi-final play. In a hotly contested match – this game ended in a 1-1 draw (a first for the Romp N Stomp) – well-played boys!

In addition to the tournament action, seven under seven years old (U7) teams came out to Myles and added to the soccer energy by playing two friendly games each with teams from across the county. And rainbows were in the air when our under 5 year-old “U5-all stars” took to the pitch for their first full team play!

LCSC would like to thank Leelanau Coffee and all the parents who contributed to this event. Donations raised over $650 for LCSC equipment. LCSC would also like to thank the Feather Foundation for its past and continued support of LCSC’s scholarship fund, which helps to cover registration costs and provide affordable soccer opportunities for all kids to play. Look for the Romp N Stomp trophies in area schools!
